Laurel Grain Company Policies

Providing grain drying and storage facilities to the Mid-Atlantic area since 1965

Moisture Discount Schedule / Drying & Storage Charges

  • Moisture Discount Schedules and drying charges are made yearly with consideration to the charges established by the commodity end users.
  • Storage charges are made by the approval of the Board of Directors. Any increase/decrease in charges can only be approved by the Board of Directors and not by management.
  • If storage space is available for a commodity, the Board of Directors may issue a storage free period for the given commodity. This period gives farmers time to view their crop and see what the market conditions are for the storage of the given commodity. The storage free period will be established by the Board and usually ends when the majority of the given commodity has been harvested in the area. PLEASE NOTE – During the storage free period, grain can be sold for the daily posted price either wet or dry and discount and drying charges will apply.
  • Laurel Grain will make every effort to have additional space available during harvest but sometimes we will not and will generate the space as soon as possible.
  • A handling fee (loadout fee) will apply to grain sold dry but not stored at Laurel Grain. There is no handling fee on stored grain at Laurel Grain.

Grain Receiving / Storage and Grain Inspection

  • Daily receiving hours will be set by management. Laurel Grain will make every effort to remain open during the harvest season. Downtime for drying and maintenance hours are needed on a daily basis to ensure minimal wait times due to the available wet storage space in a given day.
  • Stockholder’s owned storage space can be used only once during a year.
  • Inspection of grain is mandatory for every commodity purchased and/or sold at Laurel Grain. Inspection times vary per commodity. Moisture re-probes must be requested prior to customer leaving the scale. Once a re-probe has been requested by the customer, you can not go back to the original test result. Moisture meter and all other testing equipment used by Laurel Grain employees is certified yearly by the DDA. All testing equipment is checked prior to harvest. Under no circumstances, is the testing equipment located at Laurel Grain manipulated by any representative of this company.
  • Due to insurance requirements, All customers/ Stockholders must assist employees of Laurel Grain with the unloading of grain at the facility. All hopper bottom trailers and truck latches must be opened and closed by the driver of the vehicle.

Grain Sales

  • Grain is available for sale to Stockholders/Customers when supplies permit sale.
  • Price per bushel is established on a sale by sale basis with the Grain Manager.
  • Any grain sale has to be a minimum of 50 bushels per Customer.
  • Customers must communicate with the scalehouse personnel if a bushel amount is desired. Due to the bulk loadout of the tanks, any amount requested will be handled to the best of our ability.
